At some point, you will need to replace old files with new versions in your course. Instead of adding new files each time, which increases the clutter and size of the course files area, use the overwrite feature in Blackboard.

The method for overwriting is slightly different, depending on how you linked the file in Blackboard.

The File was Linked in an Item

  1. Hover over the linked file until the arrow edit button appears.
  2. Click the arrow to open the menu
  3. Select the Overwrite File option (see below). Follow the prompts to select a new file.

File was attached directly from Build Content button

If a file was attached independent of an item, assignment, test, etc., by using the Build Content, File option as shown here, follow the instructions below.

To Overwrite the File

  1. Navigate to the Content Collection for your course. You will find it in the Control Panel, under Content Collection.
  2. Click on your course ID to open the files for the course.
  3. Hover over the file name until you see the edit button and click it.
  4. Select Overwrite File (see below). Follow the prompts to upload the new file.
