Instructors can include a question at the beginning of each of their exams that reminds students about their responsibility regarding academic integrity.

You can copy the following text into a new multiple-choice question worth zero points.

Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, any act by which a student gains or attempts to gain an academic advantage for him/herself or another by misrepresenting his/her or another’s work or by interfering with the independent completion, submission, or evaluation of academic work. Each University of Arkansas student is required to be familiar with and abide by the University’s ‘Academic Integrity Policy’ which may be found at https://honesty.uark.edu/policy/index.php. Students with questions about how these policies apply to a particular course or assignment should immediately contact their instructor.”

Academic dishonesty in this course is defined as any act by which a student gains or attempts to gain an academic advantage for themselves or another by misrepresenting their work. Examples of academic dishonesty include:

  • A student submits any written work, composed in total or in part, by someone other than the student claiming to have authored the work.
  • Someone other than a student enrolled in the class takes an exam or completes a written assignment and then submits that work for credit as their own.
  • A student accesses unauthorized materials (i.e. use of prohibited device/software/online resource) at the time they are taking the exam.
  • A student copies (or shares) answers from another student while taking an exam.

If evidence exists that academic dishonesty has occurred (for example, duplication of incorrect answers is found on two or more tests), the suspected student may be informed at the time of the test, during the review of the recording of the exam, or throughout the grading process. I take these matters seriously, and University policy requires me to report any suspicion of academic dishonesty to the Office of Academic Initiatives and Integrity for review.
