Blackboard Ultra makes it easy for you to keep your Gradebook up to date with the Automatic Zeros feature for late or missed assignments.

Why use it? Automatic zeros not only save you time from manual grade entry but also give your students an accurate representation of their current grades. You are also able to manually override individual students’ assignment grades and award points later in accordance with your grading policies.  Keep in mind that automatic zeros will only apply to grade columns where there is a past due date and something to turn in.  Manual columns do not work with the automatic zero function.

Assigning Automatic Zeros in the Ultra Gradebook

1. Navigate to your Blackboard Ultra course.

2. Open your Gradebook.

3. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Gradebook to open Gradebook Settings.

4. Once in your Gradebook Settings, scroll down to Automatic Zeros and check the box.

After Activating

The feature is now activated in your course. You can disable it at any time. You are also able to manually override grades for past due assignments in accordance with your late policies. This can be done via the Gradebook in the grid view or via the assignment grading page.  Keep in mind: Removing automatic zeros or turning on automatic zeros in the middle of a term will change student grades.
