Information on grade calculations and clarification on what running total really means.

  1. Navigate to your course
  2. Click on Gradebook in the top course menu
  3. Click on the Overall Grade icon and click Edit
    Click the Overall Grade Icon and Click Edit

By default the Overall Grade is set to Base Calculation on Points earned out of Total Graded Points. (Running Total)

Overall Grade Settings

Students can see the Overall Grade in their Gradebook. The student may also select the Overall Grade icon to see calculation details.

If Base Calculation on Points earned out of total graded is Checked, Students will see:
Click Icon to view how the overall grade is calculated

If it is Unchecked, Students will see:
Click Icon to view how the overall grade is calculated

Running totals can edited on any calculated item

  1. Click on the Calculated Item Icon and Click Edit
    Click on the Calculated Column Icon and Click Edit
  2. Leave the base calculation on points earned out of total graded points Checked if you want Running Totals or Uncheck if you want the calculation based on all points possible.
    Check or uncheck the option for running totals
