Every student is unique, and their learning needs vary. The Notes feature in Blackboard Ultra allows you to leave notes for yourself and other instructors in the course about your students. Notes are private and can only be accessed by instructors, administrators, and higher roles. Taking notes about students allows instructors to personalize their teaching approach. You can record specific challenges, strengths, and areas of improvement for each student, enabling you to tailor your support and interventions accordingly. It is also a great place to track communication between yourself and the student that happened outside of Blackboard in email or in person.

  1. Navigate to your Blackboard Learn Ultra class.
  2. Click Gradebook.
    Click Gradebook. Click Grid View
  3. Click Students.
  4. Click on the name of one of the students.
  5. Click Notes.
  6. Type your notes in the box and click Save.

Now you’ve taken notes that can help you keep track of your student’s progress! To see examples of how this can be useful check out the Notes section of this Blackboard support article on the Student Overview area.
