Starfish (UASuccess) helps build stronger connections between students and their support networks. Students use Starfish to schedule appointments with advisors and monitor their academic progress.

As faculty, we can use Kudos and Flags in Starfish as a framework for strategic outreach to any student who may need support. Raising flags identifies students in academic distress, while kudos recognize student achievement. Students can also raise flags on themselves to receive help from an academic success coach.

Flags

Faculty can raise flags to alert students about their academic performance or to notify a student advocate that outreach is needed.

  • Attendance Concern – for students who have missed classes.
  • Course Engagement Concern – for students not participating actively.
  • Low Grade – for students performing below expectations.
  • Student Success Intervention Request – for immediate outreach from Student Success.

Student-Raised Flags: When a student raises a flag on themselves, an academic success coach responds within 24 hours. Encourage your students to use this option when they need assistance!

Kudos

Kudos are used to acknowledge positive progress and achievement. They’re a quick and meaningful way to celebrate student effort and motivation. Raise these often!
