It can be a good idea to remind students of academic honesty repeatedly throughout the semester. One good time to do this is when they’re taking a test or quiz.

Feel free to copy the text below into a multiple-choice or true/false question in your Blackboard test:

“As a core part of its mission, the University of Arkansas provides students with the opportunity to further their educational goals through programs of study and research in an environment that promotes freedom of inquiry and academic responsibility. Accomplishing this mission is only possible when intellectual honesty and individual integrity prevail.”

“Each University of Arkansas student is required to be familiar with and abide by the University’s ‘Academic Integrity Policy’ which may be found at https://honesty.uark.edu/policy/index.php. Students with questions about how these policies apply to a particular course or assignment should immediately contact their instructor.”

“ACADEMIC DISHONESTY” IN THIS COURSE IS DEFINED AS A SITUATION WHERE A STUDENT FALSELY CLAIMS ANOTHER PERSON’S WORK AS HIS OR HER OWN. Examples of academic dishonesty include:

  • Someone other than a student enrolled in the class takes an exam or completes a written assignment, and then submits that work for credit as their own
  • A student accesses unauthorized materials (i.e. online resources, concealed answers) at the time they are taking an exam.
  • A student copies (or shares) answers from another student while taking an exam.
  • A student submits any written work, composed in total or in part, by someone other than the student claiming to have authored the work.

If evidence exists that cheating has occurred (for example, duplication of incorrect answers is found on two or more tests), the student suspected of cheating may be informed at the time of the test, during the review of the recording of the exam, or throughout the grading process. I take these matters seriously, and University policy requires me to report any suspicion of cheating to the Office of Academic Initiatives and Integrity for review of the situation.

BY SELECTING YES/TRUE BELOW, YOU AGREE THAT YOU HAVE READ THE STATEMENTS ABOVE CAREFULLY AND UNDERSTAND THE POLICIES CONCERNING CHEATING THAT ARE OPERABLE IN THIS COURSE.
