The Test Location setting in Blackboard allows instructors to designate UA Testing Services as the location where students complete their tests, adding an extra layer of security.
Testing Services provides full class testing as well as individual testing accommodations for on-campus exams. Blackboard tests administered by Testing Services should be set up without an access code and restricted to the Testing Services location in order to preserve test security. Blackboard makes this process straightforward.
If only a portion of your roster will have their exam administered by Testing Services, you will need to copy the test, create groups for those users, then set release conditions to only include those groups in order to restrict only those testing at a Testing Services location.
NOTE: Do not assign the test to a group. Only use the groups to set a membership rule in Release Conditions.
For courses with timed tests, be sure to set up time accommodations in Blackboard. Once added to a student’s profile, these apply automatically to all timed assessments.
To restrict a test to only the Testing Services location, go to Assessment Settings, ensure no access code is required, and select UA Testing Services from the Location Restriction drop-down. Click Save.

The exam will now be restricted to only the Testing Services locations.
The recommended path for creating an Overall Grade column with 2 exams:
- Set your Gradebook to automatically assign zeros after the Due Date and include a Due Date on the test
- Change the 2 tests to be in the same, new Category (i.e. Exam1 or Exam2)- this category should be exclusive to these 2 tests.
- Click Edit Calculation Rules on this category, Enable Calculations, and then choose to drop the 1 lowest grade.
Note: Due to limited space, exams administered by Testing Services should have the release conditions set to 8:00 AM the day of the exam in order for Testing Services to accommodate students with extended time and back-to-back classes.
