There are times when your students are taking an online test and can’t use scratch paper but they need to use a table to figure something out. One example of this would be when a student is trying to figure out the chance of some hereditary trait showing up in the offspring of two parents.  It would be helpful for them to have scratch paper to write down a punnet square but when scratch paper isn’t allowed it makes things more difficult. We have some table tools that can help with that.
  1. Create your test.
  2. When there is a question for which these tools would be useful, link to the tool in the text of the question.

  3. Be sure to choose New window in the “Open link in…” field.

NOTE: If you’re using Respondus Lockdown Browser, then this should still work fine because these tools are housed within Blackboard.

During the test, the students can simply click on the link.  The tool will open in another window where they can use the tool to make any necessary calculations before returning to the question to submit their answer.

If you’re interested in having a new tool developed for your tests, please contact tips@uark.edu with details.
